Official minimum Coordinator pay floors
$33.00/hr
Netflix sets the highest floor of 8 studios
What this means for you
- Posted-range coverage is still thin: 5 US ranges from 3 studios (Sony 3, WDAS 1, DreamWorks 1). The new sources mostly turned up internships with no range, non-US roles, or no animation openings.
- Sony's $53.37/hr floor is exactly its own contract's Intermediate minimum (Sony MOA, 9/24/26). It is not below scale.
- Among the studio production-staff contracts, Netflix sets the top coordinator and PA floors ($33/$28 per hour). WDAS sets the top PM floor. Nickelodeon and Titmouse NY sit at the bottom.
- In self-reports, union animators earn about $45.8k–$52.7k/yr more than non-union animators (union n=20 or 10 depending on how the field is read, vs non-union n=99).
- Coordinator and PA pay is far below artist pay (about $44–61k vs $90–150k), and these roles aren't covered by the TAG weekly artist scales.

Read this first: the posted-range dataset is very small (5 US postings with a literal range, from 3 studios: Sony, WDAS, DreamWorks). Self-reported data (567 US rows) is larger, but 81% of entries are from 2022 and they are unverified. Nothing below should be read as a ranking of studios yet. Annualized figures = hourly × 2080.
1. What studios are posting right now (official ranges)
| Studio | Role | Posted range | Annualized | n |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sony Pictures Animation | Story Artist – Feature | $53.37–$80.00/hr | $111,010–$166,400 | 1 (low sample) |
| Sony Pictures Animation | Visual Development Artist – Feature | $53.37–$83.75/hr | $111,010–$174,200 | 1 (low sample) |
| Sony Pictures Animation | Compositor – Series | $62.22–$75.00/hr | $129,418–$156,000 | 1 (low sample) |
| DreamWorks Animation | Associate Content Producer (New York) | $75,000–$85,000/yr | — | 1 (low sample) |
| Walt Disney Animation Studios | Director, Production & Planning (management, not a creative director) | $131,500–$170,000/yr | — | 1 (low sample) |
All three Sony postings say benefits are under a collective bargaining agreement.
2. Compared with TAG Local 839 minimums (current period 8/2/26–7/31/27, from the official PDF)
- CORRECTED (round 2): Sony is not under the master scale. It has its own TAG agreement (2025–2028 MOA, official PDF). Its schedule effective 9/24/26–9/23/27 sets Level II (Intermediate Story Artist / Visdev / Animator) = $53.37/hr and Level I (Senior) = $62.58/hr. The live postings (rechecked 2026-10-15; Story Artist updated Oct 12, Visdev Oct 5) still show "$53.37/hour to $80/hour" and "$53.37/hour to $83.75/hour". So Sony's posted floor is exactly its contract Intermediate minimum, and the ceiling is 28–34% above its Senior minimum. My round-1 claim that the floor was "below guild minimum" was wrong: it compared against the master scale, which doesn't govern Sony.
- Sony's own Senior rate ($62.58) is still below the master-scale journey Animator/Layout/BG rate ($64.94, 8/2/26–7/31/27) and Story Person journey ($65.55, flagged verify). That is about 4–5% lower, on a contract-to-contract basis.
2b. Production-staff minimums by studio (official TAG PDF, rates in effect 10/15/2026)
| Studio | Coordinator min | PA min | Production Manager min |
|---|---|---|---|
| Netflix Animation | $33.00/hr | $28.00/hr | $2,400/wk (exempt) |
| Bento Box | $32.97/hr | $26.91/hr | $47.09/hr |
| DreamWorks | $32.83/hr | $27.68/hr | $2,085.75/wk (exempt) |
| Titmouse LA | $32.50/hr (journey) | $25.00/hr | $44.19/hr |
| WDAS (The Secret Lab) | $32.00/hr | — | $2,699.84/wk (exempt) |
| Cartoon Network / WB Animation | $30.00/hr | $26.00/hr | $42.00/hr |
| Nickelodeon | $1,094.16/wk (≈$27.35/hr at 40h) | $978.99/wk | $1,698.83/wk |
| Titmouse NY | $26.01/hr (journey) | $22.73/hr | $34.79/hr |
- Netflix has the highest contract floor for coordinators and PAs among these studios. Netflix's agreement was ratified 5/15/2026, and DreamWorks is $0.17/hr behind on coordinators.
- WDAS has the highest PM floor ($2,699.84/wk), ahead of Netflix ($2,400).
- Nickelodeon has the lowest LA coordinator floor (≈$27.35/hr), below even Titmouse LA.
- Inference (no causal source opened): Netflix's 2026 floors sit at the top of the range. Whether they push others up can be tested when DreamWorks (expires 7/31/2028) and Nick renegotiate.
- Self-reported coordinators average $60,672/yr (n=29), about $29.17/hr. That's roughly at these floors, but those entries are mostly from 2022.
2c. Editors (Local 700 vs data)
- I couldn't capture Local 700 minimums. editorsguild.com rate tables say "only available to logged in members". local700_minimums.csv records that.
- Official proxy: Sony's TAG editorial schedule (9/24/26–9/23/27) is Editor $66.40/hr (≈$138,112/yr), Assoc. $53.40, Assist. $49.14.
- Posted data: there are no editor postings with a range.
- Self-reported editors: n=5, average $101,160 (low sample).
- The two who name Local 700/MPEG are an Assistant Animation Editor at $109,200 and an Animatic Editor at $182,000 (both 2022).
- The three non-union editors are $65k–$81.6k (motion graphics/video-editor hybrids).
3. Self-reported (SaltyAnimators sheet; separate, not blended)
- Disney Animation (WDAS) animators: average $145,203/yr (n=10). The current TAG animator journey minimum is $135,075 annualized.
- Self-identified union animators average $135,950 (n=10). Non-union animators average $83,249 (n=99), a gap of about $52.7k. Union field is self-reported free text and often blank. If entries that mention TAG, 839 or the guild also count as union, the union average is $129,040 (n=20) and the gap is about $45.8k. The Pay pages use that broader reading.
- Nickelodeon storyboard: average $127,865 (n=11). DreamWorks storyboard: average $117,402 (n=5). WDAS storyboard: average $151,800 (n=3).
- Netflix Animation visdev: average $152,763 (n=3). This is the only self-reported Netflix cell with 3 or more rows. There's no posted Netflix US range to compare against.
- Bento Box animators: average $55,280 (n=5). That's the lowest named-studio animator cell, at roughly 41% of the TAG animator journey minimum annualized. Many Bento Box roles may be non-TAG or different contracts; this is unverified.
- Production coordinators average $60,672 (n=29) and PAs average $43,885 (n=9). These are the lowest-paid roles in the sheet.
4. Does Netflix lead? Are leaders pulling DreamWorks and others up?
Not supported by this data.
- Netflix has no US animation posting with a range this week; its current studio roles are in Sydney and Vancouver.
- DreamWorks is now scraped, but it has 1 US range (a NY content producer), so there is still no artist-role comparison.
- Self-reported Netflix rows are mostly from 2022 and very few (n≤3 per role).
- I did not open any news or guild source on competitive pressure, so I make no causal claim.
- For a future issue: the weekly scraper archives each run, so ranges for the same title can be tracked over time. That is the dated evidence such a claim would need.
5. Top takeaways (updated round 2)
